  1. Hey All, I am a middle school teacher in Ohio and am working on a project with the local boy scouts. We would like to get some game fish at the fry stage in the fall and raise them in a 55 gallon tank. Then take them and release them in their pond in the spring. I have done this with a trout in the classroom project, but it has become more of problem with meeting the states requirement for where we have to release them. I have talked with fish and game about the type of fish, they suggested Bluegill, Redear Sunfish or Catfish for the pond. Here are my questions: How many fish should I get for a 55 gallon tank assuming I get them in the fry stage like 2-4 inches in length? Can I raise more than one breed at a time or should I just stick with one for now? Should we get something like crayfish to help clean up the tank naturally? Types of plants we should have? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  2. Hi Folks, My name is Rafi I currently reside in Aqaba is a Jordanian port on the Red Sea's Gulf of Aqaba. I am setting up my first aquaponics system, I am trying to decide which fish species to raise, I would like Hybrid Bluegill but can't find information on: · Are they do reproduce rapidly and spawning season: · Stocking Density (kg/1000ltr): · Survival (%): · FCR: · Will eat just about anything and crude protein in feed (%): · Pro's: · Cons: · Average wholesale price/kg: Any comments or suggestion are welcome.
  3. I am setting up my first aquaponics system and I am considering either tilapia, bluegill, or crappie. Which would you suggest? I live in KY and tilapia require a license. My favorite to eat is crappie but I mostly find information on bluegill. Since they are both sunfish, they can't be that much different to raise.
  4. Hello, Im currently raising my first batch of Tilapia in an Aquaponic system that's a little over 200 gallons and is roughly holding about 60 fish, I've noticed that as the weather has gotten warmer I might be facing spawning issues. Does anyone have any suggestions for fish that I could put along side the Tilapia that would eat the eggs/fry but would leave anything over an inch or 2. I have heard large mouth bass, bluegill, and catfish. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
