  1. Update on the little rotters. They each came with 1000 composting worm eggs, have had them for 4 mths now. The idea is that you plonk it in the middle of a regular garden bed. It is basically a plastic box with holes in the bottom. You put food in and the worms come and eat it. They then explore your garden bed aerating the soil and depositing their castings along the way, attracting earth worms. The worms don't eat too much, but they seem to have all hatched, and there are plenty of worms in the garden bed.
  2. Silly question: but I'll ask anyway - what does "mineralise" mean? Can you put it all in the worm bin without mineralising, or is it too wet? What happens if you just let the sludge settle then separate and feed to worms? Does the clear water contain any nutrients?
  3. Hi Gary, what do you do with your waste material from the filter? I think I read a while back that you feed them to a worm farm, or was it black soldier fly?
  4. Careful of local charges, if this is sea freight you will have your money tied up for 2 months at least, plus the unloading charges for LCL (less than container load) are crazy - usually more than the sea freight itself. I can't believe air freight being only AUD240 for a pallet. From my experience it would cost about $1000 to bring in a pallet by sea freight. All I can say is be really careful, get a door to door quote, he may be quoting freight to the Aus port only.
  5. Hey, I just ordered 2 Garden bed worm farms (mini rotters) from Kookaburra Worm farm. Looks like a good idea. Has anyone tried them? It is basically a worm farm that you put straight into the garden bed, the compost worms consume the leftover food, leave their castings in the soil, then the earth worms spread the castings further into the garden bed.
  6. Thanks GaryD, have read a lot of your posts and info on microponics etc. very interesting, impressive stuff. Keep up the good work. Cheers Paul.
