  1. Okay I need some advice about the pipe sizes for water and drainage?? I am thinking of using 1 1/2 pvc pipe for the water delivery and 2' pvc pipe for the drainage lines?? Any insight on if this is a good choice for this type of system or not???? Thanks Wes.
  2. Yes as for the side vents you can see how they roll up. This weekend we will be putting screen up to where the plastic stops and over the fan opening to keep out the fla state bird out !!!!!! The Mosquito!!!!!!!
  3. Yes we have a fan slot in the back of the greenhouse and the sides roll up about half way. We live in South Fla so it gets hot here thus the white greenhouse covering. Here are some more pics of how far we have gotten and made some grow bed changes. We are going to have 3 beds on the inside of the grow house, 7'by 4' wide by 12'' deep beds in the green house when we finally get all this finished. But for now two will do just fine. On the outside we are going to have those camper tops as deep water troughs for growing veggies that way. I think we are going to do the whole system as deep water at the start and change at least one if not 2 of inside beds to gravel flood and drain. Under the middle grow bed I have to sump boxes 4' wide by 25" long and 22"deep. I think I can put a 2" pipe between the 2 for a main connection to each other. Any and all thoughts and suggestions are oh so welcome. I want to do this right from the start. I have been studying the Queensland system I think that is what is was called I have been pouring over so many books and internet info I am dizzy from all the concepts and do's and dont's.
  4. Then we decided to make our own wooden boxes. Also this is more of the work we did on the green house getting it ready.
  5. Okay we thought we where going to set the hoop house up like this. But as you will see things change with this aquaponics work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Okay got some more pic of how far we have gotten up to this point. My head is about to burst with all the choices of what to do or not to do with 4 grow beds DWT? or F&D? or both? one fish tank 300gal and to homemade sumps tied together????
  7. This will be a on going photo update of all the parts and stages of my journey of creating my Green House and Aquaponics system.
  8. Okay guys here the initial layout. Its 11' width inside the 4 by 4's and its 20' long. I have two 10' 4 by 4’s for the length tied together with pre-made metal plates from home depot. I just put the plates on all 3 sides of the four by fours in the middle to join them together to make the 20' length. On the ends are 12' pressure treated 2 by 4's. As you can tell laying it out and then leveling the ground is a chore in and of itself then you have to put down some weed cloth. On the 4 by fours I drilled a hole every 2 feet from the ends of the 4 by 4’s then I drove a 30 inch 5/8 steel rod into the 4 by 4's into the ground. It’s a start and with the limited space I have in the backyard I had to cut up some of the concrete of the back porch to make it all work out. I will post more of the progress pic’s as time allows.
  9. Hello All Wes Here, A little bit about myself. I was a plumber for 20 some odd years then went into Tech. Got a associate degree in electronics and started working on computers and the like. Learning all I could on my own in computers and the like after schooling was over. Worked in plumbing until I landed a tech job with a homeless agency. Any way I am starting from scratch creating a homemade system with all the info and guidance I can find and learn from. Setting up a hoop greenhouse 11 feet wide and 20 ft long. I have a 300 gal fish tankâ€(from ace hardware 199.00 my cost,)†for two 4 by 8 grow beds free so far. That is an approximate measurement of the beds. I am using two fiberglass truck camper tops as the grow beds, they have been modified to work as close to the setup of the wonderful Murray Hallam's videos as I can get. l am doing all this in my backyard so space is at a premium. I have included the first pics of one of the truck tops being modified. I will be posting more pics of the Green house and over all setup as time allows. I also need to mention my super lassie help mate that makes this DIY project go easier, Niki you will see her in some of the photos posted.
