Inside the biofilter

So in this, you can see the bottom where the PVC pipe tees off and the outflow pipe are pointed in opposite directions to make a swirl effect so it doesn't settle on bottom. The top, I'm assuming, is where the pump is hooked up from the fish tank flowing into the top. The guy told me the Y attached to the top stays open, that way when the water is flowing through, it pulls in oxygen to the water.
