Crayfish walking around on ice

1 post in this topic

Was walking the dog today around one of the ice covered ponds and noticed two crayfish ambling along on the ice. Air temp was low 40's F. (about 5 or 6 celcius) and it was lightly raining. They were about 10 feet from shore and appears to be headed for the middle. Water is open a little along the shore and there are some tilapia frozen in the ice.

Just never though I'd see crayfish walking around on the ice in the winter. I'm guessing they got up on the ice and got disorientated?  Good thing there weren't any crows around or they would have been a quick fun meal. Ice was not safe enough for a rescue!
