I supply recirculating systems and fish to is now on "softened water." Apparently they are now using a water softener.

Am I correct in assuming alkanlinty and hardness will need to be tested for periodically along with PH, and something added to increase those? Sodium bicarbonate or calcium bicarbonate?

If they're using Sodium Chloride in their softener, I wouldn't add anything with Sodium to it; there will probably already be plenty of sodium ions in the water.
