I just joined y'all but haven't started my aquaponics garden yet. I'm expecting 100 tilapia to be delivered today. I plan on growing them in a 55 gallon barrel. I have it beside my pond and plan on continually pumping water into the barrel. I have a screen on a bulk head to keep the fish from floating out. I will begin gathering the other stuff I need for the garden. One step at a time.

Hi Irwf

Welcome to APN/HQ

That sounds like a lot of fish for a 55gallon tank IMO

cheers

Well, I am just going to grow them a little bit in the barrel.  After they get bigger, I will have had time to get my grow bed built and I have some other places I plan on putting some of the others.  I'm new to this so I figured I better get more than I need because I will probably kill some of them through ignorance.  I'm looking to learn from y'all.

Welcome to APN.

I'd make sure that you have plenty of water cycling through that barrel.  How big is the pond to which the barrel is attached?

Building a net cage in the pond may be a better way to keep them till you get your system built.... Welcome aboard.
