Hey from Cape Town South Africa

Hey there,

I'm in South Africa in Cape Town.

I got hooked on Aquaponics last year June when I read about it by accident on an adventure biking forum I'm a member on. At the time the thread was 27 pages long and I read it in one sitting.

Within a week I had read extensively and I had the parts to build my own

I started with a 3 bed IBC system with a DWC tank thrown in for good measure.

Then being addicted I convinced a friend to let me build a system for him and I had the pleasure to build again but, to change all the things I would have done differently.

Also a 3 bed + DWC and the NFT tubes thrown in.

After that I noticed a lot of people saying they did not have the space so I built this during the holidays, it fits into 1/2m²

Hi Python,

Welcome aboard.

And now all you have to do is add some dedicated mechanical and biological filtration and you'll really be flying.

Both the bigger systems have a swirl filter with an internal membrane (piece of sun filter curtain) to keep the solids out of the system.

Like shade,

Summer is kicking in. It hit 40°C yesterday, the fish are happy and so are the established plants but the young plants aren't surviving.

I have a strain of Mozambiquean tilapia, they are pink.

There is one tilapia my son caught and dropped in there. I have been trying to catch it for a while because it is rude to the other fish.

That system I built for my friend was Ray for fish over the holidays and all the usual suppliers were away.

So we decided to go fishing in the quarry.

we caught 61 bluegill in an hour and a half. And it was a lot of fun.
