Checkpoint Charlie

Don't know how many of you visited Berlin & Checkpoint Charlie, before the fall of the vall. To me Berlin was amongst the most exciting Citys back then, the City of contrasts sort of (east/west)

Still a nice City but to me it was more, I visitid multiple times in my teens and it made a huge impact to see the huge differences I'w visited with my older kids 22/25 in their teens they don't understand what I'm talking, about   (the "end" of the cold war)

Anyhow tomorow it's 25 years since the fall of the wall

It is interresting to see/hear the coments from some oldtimers that contributed to tear down that wall in the present politcal situation of today  quote: Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, whose "perestroika" and "glasnost" reforms helped pave the way for the fall of the Berlin Wall, has greeted crowds at the city's iconic former Checkpoint Charlie border crossing.

Checkpoint Charlie was designated as the single crossing point (by foot or by car) for foreigners and members of the Allied forces. (Members of the Allied forces were not allowed to use the other sector crossing point designated for use by foreigners, the Friedrichstraße railway station).

Had to add this amongst my favorit albums

I'm not so sure the cold war isn't coming back. From what I'm reading Putin seems to long for the former Soviet Union. OTOH one could make the case we are pushing the bear into a corner.

Hi Ande,

WOW 25 years already?...

The Wall is another one of my favourite songs...I remember Roger Waters saying Pink Floyd will not be reforming unless the Berlin wall came down...I remember them Performing there when the Wall did come down...

I actually have a piece of wall in my man cave, given to me by a friend who was a soldier at the time of the wall coming down. It's just one of those things I pick up, look at and wonder if you could think and talk, I wonder what stories you could tell us...Sorry...That's just me :)...A bit like the saying "I'd like to be a fly on the wall when that happens" I spose....

I've never been to Berlin... I believe at the time of check point Charlie There was a big difference in living standards between East and West Berlin...

Thanks for the post I enjoyed that.
