Where is Gary hiding?

Hi,

Sorry’ bout being thin on the ground for so long.

Long story short, several months ago, what I thought was a swollen gland caused by a loose molar, developed on the right side of my neck. the molar was removed but the swelling remained.   When it persisted, I had it biopsied and it revealed malignant cancer cells.

Subsequent testing determined that I had a 5mm tumour in my left tonsil.  Before I could blink, my doctors had removed my tonsils and I was scheduled for an eight week process…..the only positive aspect of which was that I shed a quarter of my body weight.  The rest of it……chemotherapy and radiation therapy…..is just chockfull of nasty side effects.

It’s now about nine weeks since I completed the treatment…..and I’m about three weeks away from the PETscan that will determine how successful the treatment has been.

I haven’t had a lot to say about my condition, up to this point, because the PETScan is really the first important milestone in the treatment process….but, since Cecil raised the question, I thought it a matter of simple courtesy to put our members (many whom have become friends over the years) in the picture

While my doctors are talking optimistically about a cure, the mere mention of the word “cancer†causes a shift in your view of the world.  Suffice to say, life priorities change.

Aquaponics has been a huge part of our lives for almost all of the past decade.  How it will rank in the future is part of the thinking process that we’re currently undergoing.

And that’s where things are at the moment.

Regards.......Gary

Gary,

Sorry to hear about that. Let's hope you've got it licked!

Nothing scares me more than the word cancer. Nothing else in life even comes close.

Hi,

Most of us have been communicating for around seven years......so I feel that I'm among a cluster of friends......so your best wishes mean a lot to me.

My medical specialists are making very positive noises so I'm optimistic.

Ande, don't be concerned.  The impression that you've created in me over the years is that, had I not been born Australian, I would have elected to be a Norwegian.

Gary

Gary,

So sorry to hear, but optimistic and hopeful that with your aggressive and immediate response your next tests will show very positive results. I'll keep you in my prayers - God bless.

Thanks Kellen and Ed.......and to the many others who have emailed me.

Things are beginning to appear somewhat normal as the more visible side effects of my treatment lapse.

I'm about a week away from the first big acid test as to the success of the treatment.....so here's hoping that it's worked as planned.

While I'm not participating on the forum much at the moment (been catching up on the backlog of things that have been left undone for the  past several months), I've been keeping a weather eye on y'all.

Take it easy!

Gary

Hi,

Two days ago, my medical specialists declared me currently cancer-free.

They'll be continuing to monitor my condition closely over the next couple of years since, if the cancer is to re-emerge, it's likely to do it sooner rather than later......but, at this stage, it's looking good.

I couldn't have wished for a better Christmas present.

Many thanks to my many well-wishers.

Regards.......Gary
