FAQ - What is purging - and how do I do it?

Recommended Posts

Purging tanks are used for the last 2 to 3 days of a fishes life on the way to market. The tanks are in isolation. The water is super clean and the fish do not get fed. It may contain a refrigeration unit to lower the water temp over several days to harden up the meat.  At the very end f the time either pull the fish out nice and clean or lower the temp so much as to put the fish to sleep, Pull and pack on ice to ship.  Each purge tank can contain more then one fish but not an entire shipment of hundreds.  Mostly used in commercial apps. Some people use their isolation tanks for this in Back Yard apps. Could be a lay down fridge/freezer that holds water. It needs a lot of super clean water flow and off line of everything else.
