Diagnosis please

Started with my bluegill and has moved to the catfish. Can you see the fuzz? Im not sure if this is a natural part of decomposition or if this growth killed the fish.

Looks like saprolegnia which if in your tank in sufficient numbers can attack live fish, but I suspect the fish has been dead longer than 12 hours and you just didn't notice it. Saprolegnia feeds off decaying organic matter in your tank.

I agree with Cedarswamp. Looks like fungus to me, which the most common is saprolegnia. In an otherwise healthy system, this doesn't tend to "infect" a fish until it is already dead or dying from other issues.
