BSF Biopod what works best?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Having read the other threads to do with with Black Soldier Fly and the Biopods I still have some questions.

I'd like to know what food products provide the best results from the pod.

I read the Gary no longer uses meat in his because of the smell. Is this because the meat was raw/cooked?

My neighbours and I do not want a stinky pod!! :(

As a chef I have access to all sorts of kitchen waste and off cuts. I will experiment over time but for now I would just like to kick things off quickly.

BTW I have ordered a retail sized pod from Murray, due in a few days.

Thanks for your help,

Moby :)

Any veggie scraps will do. The more finely chopped the better.

I hear stay away from watermelon rinds as this will block up the liquid reservoir.

Sometimes I get lots of small flies entering the pod after I dump a new load of scraps. So I add a thin layer of leaf litter which keeps their numbers down.
