Well I assume he is giving me what I asked for but he only has it in 175 micron. I was actually wanting something a little bigger like 300 micron.

Glad I found this topic as I have been pulling my hair out trying to keep my SS screen clean so it will allow the water to pass through after it seperates the solids. But as the screen ages it becomes almost like a smooth sheet. The wedge wire sounds promising so I am ordering a piece from Chris at Alied Aquaponics. A little pricey but if it solves my problem it should be worth it.

I am surprised by this. I am currently making a cone bottom RFF and it has to be better than the one I currently have if for no other reason than it makes it easier to clean out. But I plan to drain it twice a day into my MT so I am hoping it won't clog.

    Hello,
One of the commercial aquaponics growers here in Hawaii ordered a feed that incorporated all the essentials for plants. They wanted to experiment with it and offered it for sale at $75.00 / bag....an increase from about $45.00. I never did follow up on their results... But it seems to me not very economic.

I plant in cycles to experiment. The last cycle of tomato plants was a time when I used hydroponic fertilizer. This cycle I am just adding iron, mag., and potasium in very small amounts. When I get my sand bed done I will only add iron....
The trickle filter over the mineralization tank is to add aeration and I hope to get my Ph down. I have a big Ph issue on the plant side and I can't just keep dumping muriatic acid into the plant side everday.
There are some plants that are not in need of hydroponic fertilizers. Others like tomato plants seem to need additives.
I don't need to clean the buffer pad in the MT. I don't have the 100 micron screen in it anymore as I really don't need it. I may add an air stone to increase O2.
Keep in mind I am experimenting and half the time I do not know why I do what I do except it seemed like a good idea at the time. .

Can you make wine from that? Not sure why but it just seems like the right thing to do.

Nice.  I have some kind of sliced lemon, lime, tangerine tree thing.  I guess it was spliced. There are some lemons that are big like apples.

I was thinking of putting sand into a few of my dutch buckets to see how they compare to the lava rock.  I would get the water directly from the FT.

Tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, bitter mellon, green onion, and an occassional green been. Planted pumpkin, and various other veggies.

Thanks Gary.  Here is a video of the new system as it is now.

Well if you could disconnect your grow beds each year and just raise the fish till Spring then reconnect would that make things easier? Why are you completely disassembling the systems?

I would hate that. Suggest you move to Hawaii.

I have calcium but I can't for the life if me remember adding it. I am replanting and plan on letting everything grow without any hydroponic nutrients. I will still add individual things like iron and potassium but no pre-made hyrdroponic stuff.
I want to see if thete is a difference in the growth.

Finally got some time to respond with some thought. I had lots going on including my wife's 50th BDay.... IRT to the Mineralization Tank valve I use a 24 volt AC gravity feed 3/4 " valve. You can get these in different voltages, input / output sizes, and either AC or DC depending on your system. I got mine from E-Bay here.

The device I used to measure the MTank nutrient concentration was a Bluelabs Truncheon meter. The EC was 1.6 in my main tank on the plant side and 2.0 in the mineralization tank. That is 800 ppm and 1000 ppm respectively. In comparrison, the FT is reading half of that at about 500 ppm.
    Hope that helps....

I don't know, looks like Bell is being sued for non payment of bills. If I were running a company I would pay my bills or declare bankruptcy.
Certainly the company should be very closed mouth while in litigation.

Well no doubt my fertilizer helped. I added  one dose early on. I am sure the whole Mineralization Tank/hydroponic part of the dual loop all contributed and let's not forget my damn good looks.

No sand bed yet.  Currently using lava rock and hydroton.  To be honest, the lava rock, with all its pores and surface area is working very well. It is light weight and easy to use.

OK, I took the reading and there is a higher tds reading in the MTank. The main sump was at a little above 1.6 and the top of the min tank was at 2.0. I guess I should have measured inside the MTank below the top filter but I was still somewhat surprised.

Yes, I have a meter but never measured it in the M-tank because I assumed it would be the same as in the main sump tank.
