They used to have tilapia feed. Apparently they no longer do?

If you don't mind me asking what did you have to pay for it in Hawaii? It can't be cheap shipping it to the island.

Some salt will help to mitigate against nitrite toxicity.  You can calculate the amount you need precisely.....or you can just salt the system to 1part per thousand.......1kg per 1000 litres.

Yep, closing ones eyes only helps the lies perpetuate. Confront and educate!

The link is clear, the tactic to get into and stay in power.  One of the problems with democracies is that unscrupulous people can manipulate the system to achieve power and then change the rules to stay there. If the people allow them to do that, they too get what they deserve in the end.

    Hello,
I did a lot of reading concerning the various water filtration methods. I wanted the cleanest water I could get with the least amount of labor....I am basically a lazy person. .
I settled on an IBC system that incorporates a RFF first that drains into a bio-filter with K1 media that gets its O2 from a home made PVC venturi tube along with an air stone powered by an air pump.
That in turn goes splits off to a media bed and a floating bed. I have another pump in the floating bed that pumps the water, which may still have very small particles in it, into 10 Dutch Buckets filled with lava rock that further filters the water as it passes through into the sump tank.
I do still have to vacuum the RFF weekly to get the heavy stuff but that only takes about 10 min.

    No worries...

Same here, at least not as a poster. My kids live and die by it. I do like to look at the poosts and pictures of family and friends but I guess I am just too lazy to post my own life up there for all to see. Besides, who wants to see an aging white man?   My kids actually post for me. In fact as I recall they opened my account for me. I had to go in and change my PW so they could not post on my account anymore.

Democracy belongs to the people. It is only stable as long as the people are willing to defend it.  As the American founders said, we have given you a republic, if you can keep it.  The greatest enemy of democracy, any democracy is apathy.

It's called fighting a war......and, regrettably, MH17 got caught up in it.

Soldiers of every nation get into similar behaviour at some point or the other.  Contrary to what we're told war isn't conducted according to any real rules.  Chivalry (in the middle ages) right through to the Geneva Convention were attempts to put boundaries around the conduct of war but, when it's all said and done, war is about killing people (particularly civilians) in pursuit of national(istic) "interests."

Rules of engagement is a political notion......not a military one......and they'll go out the window when the pressure comes on.  They exist so that when someone does something naughty (and gets caught), the blame can be sheeted home to the bottom end of the totem pole.

The real evil in war lies behind well behind those soldiers and their behaviour......look to the politicians, industrialists and generals (what C. Wright Mills described as the "power elite") for the real cause of war......and all that flows from it.  The power elite exists in any country large enough to go to war with another country.   They'll do it for as long as it suits (and enriches) them and then they'll stop.   It's not personal for them.....it's business.

The soldiers in the photo are just pawns in the game......and the people on MH17 are victims of victims.

I recently built this to pump out my solids. Works pretty good for the bigger stuff. Keeps the water in the tank.

As I have said I am a novice and new to all this but I do have two degrees in the sciences and engineering so not a complete dolt. So my question is if you have a build up of solids, how do worms cure that problem? Don't worms leave waste too?  Would it not be better to "purify" the water before it gets to the grow beds?
