  1. Nice updates on your progress.
  2. Seems to be a hot topic.. So how do you get the right sand for these systems? For a system developed for third world countries it seems that getting the exact right sand is the biggest obstacle?
  3. Do you have any more details of these systems and water distribution?
  4. LOL...It has been a rough summer indeed. My system has been worked on very slowly and the heat of the summer has not allowed me to do anything. Now the nights are starting to cool off so it should drop water temps to reasonable levels. Then all I need is shade cloth and a cover for the raft and I will be off and going.. MT is kicking butt though. Ready to go
  5. lol.. its all good. those bag filters and sieve combo is a pain.. I thought i had mentioned that to you strider.. maybe it was someone else.. its all good though. your build is producing which is more than I can say about mine its talking too long for me to get it going
  6. hmmmm....
  7. This is the plan so far. Now anyone want to suggest how much water should be transferred between fish loop and grow loop daily? And how to size MT and sump in grow bed properly?
  8. We are still waiting for that answer Sirs...
  9. Where did he say this and in what context? 1% may be a generalization of how much the fish will eat through its lifecycle. But this number is usally higher depending on the fish tilapia 1.2% or so.
  10. Where is the I love this quote button ^^^^
  11. How big was your fish tank again? 200L and 100 jade perch? Hmmm.... What's your plan as they grow?
  12. I tried heating the water and humidity became a big problem so I quit in a hurry. Now I have two water heaters that aren't being used at all. Maybuse them in my MT in next winter. Also since I have sensors feeders etc in my fishbox keeping humidity under control is important. But I see your point for your system.
  13. I am using the outlet vent from my house into the fish box. And currently a window AC to cool if necessary during summer months here. I have no number on the heating Bill but I used a $15 heater from convenience store to heat it all through winter here in Alabama. Didn't increase my Bill by much at all. My garage system and it's heat pump has been killing though on power bill. Next year I will keep better records of power usage for the whole system. (decoupled AP losely based on Pauls system)
  14. There is a Swedish system that has operated for 15 years based on the sperano system. They are building a commercial size based on that system currently. Just saying
  15. Have you done any test comparing heating water vs heating airspace where fish tanks are located Matt? I have gone strictly to heating the air where fish tanks are and a small ventilation fan to keep humidity at bay. Anyway, good questions above. (y)
  16. Okidoki.. To bad it has to be moved. Look forward to new updates as soon as it's up and running. Thanks
  17. No updates?
  18. Any links to info in regards to be vetiver grass biochar please?
  19. Sorry you just now realize how hard it is to find that specific quality of sand. I hope you will find a less expensive source.
  20. I didn't read the article yet. But I would say this most plants do not take up organic nutrients. The nutrients have to be in inorganic form, chelated form or in the microbes that then exchanges nutrients in return for exudates from the plant.. Does a lab test tell you how the nutrient was derived? No because the test would only test for inorganic nutrients. The microbes holding nutrients would not be able to be tested with this type of test I am talking about.
  21. Have you had your quail fertilizer you made with a bubble barrel tested for nutrients? What I mean is a lab test... I think if we are going to get accurate answers we need testing. Not just watching if something grows. Just my opinion. In fact this is what I will be doing With my different setups of mineralization tanks. Also aerating manure requires a lot of air if you are trying to keep it all aerobic. Do you mind sharing what you have been using? Aeration specs, size of barrel and volume of poop added? Thanks for an interesting thread.
  22. Woooohooooo!
  23. In document "Min Nut+ '86.pdf" it's 16.16g/m2/day In Document "J. Ap Ag Research 5-4.pdf" it's 28.8g/m2/day I got those numbers from doing the math based on information given in those papers. Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks
